2021 Ride Report

17 riders set out from the Viginia - North Carolina border near Milton, NC on Saturday, May 8. Temperatures were in the upper 40s and there was light drizzle, but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the participants. About an hour into the ride the skies cleared and the temperatures began a steady rise. Most of the day was spent under cloudless skies with temperatures in the 60s and low 70s.

The peleton quickly separated into a fast group averaging around 20 mph and a larger, slow group aveaging around 18 mph. At the first rest stop (the Saxapahaw General Store), the fast group took the time to dry out, but the slow group took a relatively short break and got back on the road first. The fast group passed them before the second stop, in Siler City, where the pattern repeated. The leapfrogging continued throughout the day.

The riders ran into the Buggy Festival in Carthage, which gave them the opportunity to take a break from Clif bars and Gatorade by buying festival food.

Everyone who planned to ride the entire course finished, mostly between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM. The pleasant temperatures and slightly favorable winds made for a fairly easy ride, or at least as easy as 155 miles can be.

Finishers (and the drivers who supported them) were awarded with "NoSoX - NC" socks. Because there are still lots of socks left, it looks like we'll have to do the ride again next year!
